The School District is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Athletic/Activities Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and supervising all aspects of the district's athletic programs, with a strong emphasis on fundraising, budget management, and fostering a self-sustaining athletic department. The Athletic/Activities Director will supervise coaches, manage athletic events, and ensure compliance with MHSA regulations.

TITLE: School Athletic/Activities Director
REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Superintendent
FLSA Designation: Exempt/Non-Exempt (Select one that applies)
JOB GOAL: To administer athletic activities to meet the personal, avocational, and social needs of the entire student body.
UNIVERSAL OBLIGATIONS/EXPECTATIONS OF EACH STAFF MEMBER
It is the expectation of the District that each staff member will: (1) put the safety, health and well-being of students at the forefront of all actions, job responsibilities and decisions, and (2) undertake all duties in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Supervises all head coaches.

Along with coaches, organize and administer the overall program of athletic activities for the district.

Represents the District in matters of interscholastic athletics with the Montana High School Association.

May assist in the selection and assignment of athletic coaches.

Will evaluate all coaching personnel.

Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of, and responsive to the athletic programs.

Responsible for the organization and scheduling of athletic events.

Obtain officials, ambulance, police and other needed services (ticket takers, clock and book personnel, etc.) and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games based on recommendation from coaches. (Arrange for payment of officials, etc.)

Supervise and keep records of those people providing services such as ticket selling, time keeping, and crowd control.

Arranges transportation in collaboration with the transportation directer for activities requiring transportation of participants and informs sponsors of their responsibilities.

Arrange provision for meals and lodging for students and coaches when the situation warrants because of travel.

Develop, place into operation, and evaluate appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities with Board approval.

Maintain familiarity with rules and regulations of the MHSA and see that they are enforced. Keep staff informed relative to the regulations and obligations pertaining to their activity.

Assume final responsibility for the proper filing of all reports and communications as required by the MHSA.

Oversee the physical, academic, and training requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete's eligibility in collaboration with the district counselor.

Prepare and administer the athletic program budgets for high school, seeking input from coaches, advisors and principal/superintendent. Develop long range purchasing plans for uniforms and equipment.

Purchase with approval of the principal/superintendent and in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms and equipment for athletic programs.

Supervise the cleaning, storage, inventory and care of all athletic equipment.

Organize all ticket sales and fundraising events connected with the athletic programs.

Arrange all details of visiting teams' needs, including towels, soap, gymnasium services, and field assistance, as appropriate.

Provide athletic director of opposing schools with rosters containing all pertinent information and mail rosters to other school with whom we have contests.

Arrange for practice schedules along with coaches on the fields and in gymnasiums in accordance with appropriate guidelines and approval of the building principal/superintendent.

Attend athletic meetings for high school.

Assumes leadership role in the orientation and in-service training of coaching personnel prior to beginning of individual seasons. Meets with coaching staff at the end of the season.

Keep records of the results of all high school athletic contests, and maintain a record file of all award winners, stating the date and the type of award, including athletic scholarships.

Serve as manager for home track meets and tournaments.

Prepare and present athletic reports to the School Board.

Coordinate school productions, sporting events, and social functions in connection with appropriate sponsors, coaches and principal/superintendent.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Montana Teaching Certificate with courses in the organization and
administration of athletic programs.

Five years experience as a teacher and/or coach.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written form with administrators, staff, parents, and students.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Ability to handle stressful situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

Demonstrated leadership ability and general knowledge of issues and problems in all aspects of school athletics.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work time to be in accordance with current schedules.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside and outside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee will work irregular hours while performing the duties of this job.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand; travel from building to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
